It is written for parents, and just as much for educators and preschool field officers sitting alongside them. It is about noticing rather than judging — nothing here is a diagnosis, a score, or a school-entry requirement. Schools take children as they come, and so do we.

Is this an official assessment?
No. It is a conversation starter, built on the five areas of development the AEDC uses, the EYLF developmental milestones, and the red-flag guides children's health services use for early identification. No answer here means anything on its own — it simply gathers what you already know about a child into one picture.
Should my child be able to do everything here?
No. Children grow unevenly, and that is entirely normal. A child who is confident with numbers may still find goodbyes hard; a child who chats easily may still be working on their lunchbox. Uneven is not behind.
I am an educator or preschool field officer — can I use this with families?
Yes, and we hope you will. The check-in is designed to sit in the middle of a conversation with a family — a shared language for what you are both noticing, rather than a report handed over. The emailed picture is written to be read together, and Eluma welcomes contact from educators and PSFOs.
What happens with my answers?
They stay on this device. If you ask for the emailed report, it goes to your inbox and nowhere else — we do not keep a copy, and we will not contact you about it.
What if the check-in raises worries?
Start with the people who already know the child — their kinder teacher, or the family's maternal and child health nurse. And if you would like to talk it through with a specialist teacher, an Eluma Discovery session is free, unhurried, and comes with no obligation.
